==History==

At various times in its history the North Division One has varied in regards to its status.
The North Division One was originally the Top Tier of shinty in the North of Scotland. From the early 1980s, there was a national league final with the winners of the South Division One, which could be considered a possible higher tier. However the advent of the Premier Division in 1996, saw the North Division One become the undoubted second tier.
Between 1996 and 1999, the winners of North Division One and South Division One would play off to gain promotion to the top tier.
Between 1999 and 2006, the North Division One became the third tier of the league system and with the advent of the National Division One the winners of North Division One and South Division One would play off to gain promotion to National Division One.
In 2007, the National Division One was removed, and the Division once again was the second tier of league shinty. The winners of the North Division One were guaranteed promotion to the Premier Division.
In theory, the bottom team in the Division should be relegated to North Division Two, however because that league is often won by clubs' reserve teams, this has not been a feature in recent years. As of 2009, the bar on reserve teams gaining promotion was removed but North Two champions, Glenurquhart refused promotion and therefore Lochcarron was saved from relegation.
With no teams from the North relegated from the Premier Division in 2010 and 2011 and the reserve teams which won North Division Two refusing promotion, the league was left with seven teams, which would have resulted in only 12 games. Some clubs felt this was not good preparation for the rigours of the Premier Division if promoted and so, after consultation, a third fixture, which was to be a repeat of the first round of fixtures was implemented by the Camanachd Association.()
2013 saw the league reduced further by the voluntary relegation of Lochcarron to North Division Three. This resulted in a six team league which was won by Kilmallie after three rounds of fixtures. This rump league saw its top three teams promoted to a reinstated National Division One which commences in 2014.
2014 will se the league played for by a mix of first teams and second teams
